The platform for building a new economy where all people & the planet thrive

The platformfor building a new economywhere all people & the planet thrive

We envision a just world where Black, Indigenous, People of Color and systemically oppressed communities have the power of self-determination.

The Need

Innovative Infrastructure

BIPOC-led movements are piloting new economic models, but current capital and infrastructure systems prevent trailblazers from activating resources with complexity and at scale proportional to the crises that they are solving for, thus limiting the potential for innovative ideas to reach systemic-level fruition.

Numerous realities bear this out:

2% of philanthropic funds are invested in racial justice and only 2% of the income earned in Black communities stays in the community

3% of venture capital goes to Black and Latinx ventures, and for Black founders, the value of equity they hold in their companies is only a quarter the value of their white counterparts

BIPOC individuals own around 2% of farmland and receive the minority of agriculture-related financial assistance compared to white individuals who own around 98%

Only 25% of POC-led nonprofits surveyed by Building Movement Project have 20 or more staff members, revealing that a majority are managing with limited infrastructure and resources

Transforming Possibilityinto Practice

Reinvesting Sales Income for AAPI Community Care

Cut Fruit Collective is a grassroots organization based in the Bay Area that supports AAPI communities through art, publishing, and a shared love of food. Since March 2020, they’ve raised $100K+ for Bay Area Chinatowns and beyond during the pandemic, including murals for AAPI small businesses and grants for QTAPI Artists.

Together, we’ve helped tighten the flow of art donations, enabled eCommerce sales, and distributed grants to businesses.

Resourcing Environmental Justice from a Restructured DAF

Kataly Foundation is working toward a world in which Black and brown people have the resources, power, and agency to execute their own visions for justice, well-being, and shared prosperity within their communities.

With their $20m commitment to Possibility Labs’ Donor Advised Fund pilot, they’re able to flexibly and quickly work of environmental justice and social justice leaders building power in communities who have been most impacted by environmental racism and unjust economic, social, and political systems.

Feeding the Asian Diaspora in the Bay Area

Radical Family Farms is a no-spray farm centering LGBTQIA+ and mixed-Asian American heritage, building regenerative farming skills, and growing culturally relevant and nutrient dense produce and herbs for the Asian diaspora in the Bay Area.

Together, we’ve helped expand the farm’s “Solidarity Share” program, which helps feed elders in Oakland’s Chinatown with goals to expand it to San Francisco’s Chinatown.

Removing Properties from the Speculative Market

The Guild is a place-based community wealth building organization focused on closing the racial wealth gap through real estate, entrepreneurship programs, and access to capital. Through its Groundcover project, they take properties off the speculative market and operationalize equity such that risk is shifted away from marginalized communities. Together, we’re co-creating solutions to support their infrastructure needs as they continue to be on the cutting edge of returning land to Black and Indigenous communities.
